Georg Lehner, Baritone (Austria)

Georg LehnerHaving graduated in the oboe (concert degree) under Professor Turetschek in Graz, and after his engagement as oboe player with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna born baritone Georg Lehner dedicated himself to singing. He studied at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Hilde Rössel-Majdan and Walter Berry.

Georg Lehner has performed at the renowned operatic houses in Vienna, Geneva and Rome. His engagements as an opera, operetta, lied and oratorio singer took this lyric baritone to Japan, the USA, North America and other European countries.

He took part in various festivals (the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, the Mozart Weeks in Salzburg, the Schleswig Holstein Festival, the Salzburg Festival) performing the lied, as well as in masses and concert oratorios.

From 2008 Georg Lehner has sung the roles of Fiorillo in The Barber of Seville and Dancairo in Carmen at the Volksoper Wien. In 2011 and 2012 he participated in Fledermaus (Frank and Falke), touring in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and Denmark. In 2012 he performed in „Wallenstein“ with the Vienna Radio Symphonie Orchester under maestro Cornelius Meister at the Vienna Konzerthaus. In the same year, Georg Lehner has founded a concert series celebrating the Viennese tradition of song recitals in the spirit of Franz Schubert, the „Schubertiade im Achten“. At the opening concert Georg Lehner performed with Angelika Kirchschlager, Birgid Steinberger and Norbert Ernst. Among his recent appearances is the „Winterreise“ by Franz Schubert in Boston and New York City in 2013, where he also taught master classes at the New England Conservatory and the Mannes School of Music.

Last year he performed with tremendous success at the Evmelia III Festival Schubert's "Die schöne Müllerin" with Dino Mastroyiannis at the Piano. The live recording of that concert has been released in CD by the Italian company "Sheva Collection".
