New CD release of Evmelia's III farewell concert

On September 30th (2014) the Italian company "Sheva Collection" announced the release of the new CD "SCHUBERT-Die schöne Müllerin" with the Austrian baritone Georg Lehner and the Greek pianist Dino Mastroyiannis. It is the live recording and at the same time a strong reminiscence of the farewell concert of the International Music Festival «Evmelia» III, which had been accomplished at the Cultural Centre of the Porphyrogenis Foundation in Agria-Volos, on Thursday the 10th of April (2014). That concert was a point of reference for the cultural life, and the emotion of everyone that has attended it, either in person or via Internet live worldwide, has exceeded every excepted limit.

Dino Mastroyiannis. the Evmelia's Artistic Director, was playing again, after an absence from the concert stage of three and a half years, this time devoted to his biggest love: the Lieder accompaniment. He performed together with the excellent Viennese baritone Geor Lehner the legendary cycle of Schubert «Die schöne Müllerin» («The fair miller maid»), which has been already thousands of times sung and recorded; this cycle is based on poems of the famous German poet and great friend of Greece, Wilhelm Müller. Our compatriot from Volos, Ms. Eftychia Papanikolaou, who is a professor of musicology at the «Bowling Green» University of Ohio in USA, wrote the wonderful and inspired program-notes for this new CD mentioning the following: "It may not be an exaggeration that every performance of this work constitutes a monumental event, and the one on this CD is no exception. It captures not only the power of the live performance but also the extraordinary partnership of two remarkable musicians; their Schöne Müllerin is nuanced—it transcends agony in favor of redemptive catharsis."
